 1. In June 1998, TD-SCDMA drafted by China Academy of Telecommunication Technology (Datang Telecom Technology and Industry Group), was proposed to the international telecommunication union (ITU).
2. In May 2000, TD-SCDMA, proposed by Chinese government, was approved by ITU as one of the 3G mobile communication standards, which is regarded as a historic breakthrough in China telecommunication industry.

 China's home-grown 3G standard, TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access), received a limited trial during the Olympics, and is now undergoing a final, broader test before China Mobile officially launches it by the end of this year. To see how it performs I took a couple of the first handsets out onto the streets of Beijing and liked their performance -- it's the network that seems to be the problem.

Li Shihe
Appraised as Father of TD in China.
Born in Chongqing, he graduated from Chengdu Institute of Telecommunication Engineering in 1963 and received his postgraduate degree at Physics Department of Nanjing University. In 1982, he received a doctor degree at Montreal University of Canada. Doctor Li Shihe, professor level senior engineer and doctoral advisor, now acts as the senior technical consultant of Datang Mobile. He has been dealing with scientific research and management work for a long time and made great accomplishment and achievement in the fields of microwave communication and mobile telecom.
